No, not that situation.
Before any performance, most directors start by setting the scene, and that’s what this particular blog is all about. I have been challenged to complete a project that adequately showcases my skills while being informative, exciting, and productive in order to signal my worth to a potential employer. I will be reading three top sales books as recommended by advisers, participants, and alumni in Praxis. I’ve selected, “how to win friends and influence people”, by Dale Carnegie, “Think and Grow Rich”, by Napoleon Hill, and “Rich Dad, poor dad” by Robert Kiyosaki.
Just reading books isn’t all that valuable or important, but translating written words into actionable tasks is. After finishing these books I will make blogs about my takeaways and how I could use them in my own life, a personalized review of sorts. I plan to take the knowledge I gain into a retail position, something a lot of people my age end up doing for a time, but rarely end up diving fully into.
Retail Goals: I want to take the teachings from these books into the common situations that occur in retail to see if I can increase the number of positive customer reviews, make more money through commissions, or by getting a raise.
Additionally, I want to implement what knowledge I pull from these books inside of my own sales team with Nest of Vipers airsoft. I want to build our followings on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. This will give us a greater reach in the community which in turn will look better to sponsors when we ask for sponsorships.
Personal Business Goals: Get 100 subscribers on YouTube, 300 followers on Instagram, and 500 likes on Facebook.
So how do I gauge my progress in this project? Well, the current standing is that I do not have a part-time job at the time of writing this, and have never had a job working retail in my life. As for N.O.V.A. we currently have a little over 300 likes on Facebook, 83 followers on Instagram, and 16 subscribers on YouTube.
Challenges and speed bumps: I do not want to list these as complaints, but rather serve as a place-marker to better show my progress at the end of the month, and showcase what I am capable of dealing with. As it stands I have not been employed since December 21st, 2017. Money is running low and the push to get a part-time job locked down is stronger than ever. I also have classes every Monday at my church from 9:30 am to 3:30. Lastly, I have to curate all the social media accounts of my personal business, and edit videos good enough to draw in at least 84 new subscribers.
Let’s do this!
